Nothing is quite as jarring as seeing a wrong-way driver out in the open road.
But a surreal video of a vehicle at the Bay Bridge toll plaza, first shared by KGO host Alex Stack on Twitter on Sunday evening and later recirculated by former KRON anchor Stanley Roberts, shows a more reckless driver.
The vehicle in question is a tow truck, albeit one without anything in tow. And rather than carrying something in its rear, the truck in the video breaks past the bridge’s toll booth, crashes into a CHP car and pushes the car down the road and eventually off to the side before continuing its wrong-way drive.
The Bay Area News Group reported that an incident involving an “uncooperative” driver took place at about 4 p.m. Sunday. The driver reportedly refused to move the truck parked on “lanes of traffic” toward the bridge, CHP officials said.
The driver then allegedly attempted to flee, driving the wrong way down Interstate 580 before coming back and hitting the CHP car, KRON reported. The Bay Area News Group said the car was not occupied.
In the surreal video, with “Jingle Bells” playing in the background, officers and cars can be seen frantically moving aside for the barreling truck. The individual who recorded the video can also be heard shouting expletives as they move their vehicle off to the side.
The driver was later arrested after crashing into a separate SUV, whose driver was unharmed, the Bay Area News Group reported. A CHP officer reportedly sustained minor injuries while attempting to detain the suspect.
A spokesperson for CHP’s Golden Gate Division did not immediately respond to a request for comment from SFGATE.
