Eric Platz, a Lafayette tow truck operator, joined the American Truckers Freedom Convoy with his wife, Haleigh, and 6-year-old son, Emmett, in Luverne Friday morning. Haleigh described the I-90 convoy as “miles long at this point” at 11:29 a.m. Friday.
“There are people cheering us on at every overpass and rest stop so far,” Haleigh said. “Lots of trucks, motor homes and cars in the convoy. … There were cash donations and people filling up fuel tanks for free for the trucks involved.” Eric said Albert Lea was going to be his first stop and offered free towing to any convoy participant who needed it. The convoy plans to join other convoys in Ohio before heading east to the Washington, D.C. area. The protesters are aligned with the Great American Patriot Project, which opposes government mandates and public health restrictions related to COVID-19.
