Halton Regional Police have reported a “staggering” number of tow trucks were taken off the road during the annual Towbruary Tow Enforcement Campaign.

Halton police officers conducted 103 tow truck inspection blitzes in February as part of the campaign.
Officers took 56 trucks out of service and laid 155 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
“The top three reasons for failed inspections were load security, lighting issues, and weight issues,” police said in a release. “To ensure the safety of all road users, drivers and operators of commercial vehicles are required to ensure their vehicles and loads are inspected and safe before they are operated on any road.”
Drivers have the right to choose a tow company and can also have an officer request a tow from an authorized rotational list.
